| starting to miss home. "home" as in family, friends, and toronto. toronto food especially. yesterday was a particularly grumpy day. stay-away-from-me kinda day. aren't i allowed to have those days once in a while? sheesh. lu & phil's wedding next weekend, i won't be able to see my lu get married ...will be missing out on the festive day...and photos!! please photoshop me into the wedding party photos, hahaha....waaahhhh.... and congratulations to tara & jeff on their engagement! ** oh the choices you make in life...you can't have everything. career choices will impact all other aspects of life. ie. dental school is demanding and does not enable you to have a social life outside of uni-life. now i understand why those pursuing higher education are "too busy" to get married. i scoffed at them (that word is for you, pshin). "if you're a good catch, it doesn't matter what life situation you're in, you'll be snatched up. so what's wrong with them?!" but now i understand. no time to meet people. let alone pursue a relationship. at least i'll be verrrry friendly with my fellow 99 colleagues over the next 4 yrs. i see them 8-10 hrs a day. at least 5 days a week. at least they're cool. now i must end this post with a little ode to toronto-food. oh how i miss you so. i miss... burrito boyz; jerk spot; wah sing lobster; 3-dip med bread at moxie's; shawarma max; john anderson's fresh fries w/ gravy & tzatziki; st louis wings & dill sauce; cho-won kimchi jjigae & gganpoongi; new generation sushi; greg's ice cream; congee wong/queen; hot almond black milk tea w/ tapioca at ten ren's; bottles of bubbly at arthur's; go-ro-kaes at galleria; baton rouge baby back ribs; milestone's sandwiches; insomnia fries w/aioli; souvlaki & antipasti platter at mi va mi... probably missing others i want to eat, but that's all for now. yum. | | |
| 1. a tube of Sensodyne at shoppers drug mart costs $4.60 CAD. a tube of Sensodyne here in australia costs $9.40. *CAD:AUD is roughly 1:1, Canadian dollar slightly stronger* 2. cotton candy = fairy floss 3. Rice Crispies cereal = Rice Bubbles cereal 4. Burger King = Hungry Jack's 5. stores here bringing in 'new season' stock, is just bringing in more and different summer clothes, haha, i love it. no more of canada's 'new season' stock, literally summer fashion to winter fashion. 6. have not yet seen wallabees or 'roos, sorry dudes. although i hear there are many cockroaches, bats, stork-like birds, and lizards. weird. 7. i highly recommend the book below. funny, yet very, very informative. with commentary by john galliano, manolo blahnik, among others. | | |
| am in Sydney...what the hell am I doing in this backwards country?? haha kidding of course...but serious, many notable differences to Canada...but not as many as you'd think...flipping through the channels and seeing Wentworth Miller on Prison Break and a big Heroes poster on the street made me feel...relieved? globalization will help me feel closer to home, I think. haven't ventured out too far yet, only for some cheap Thai with the other international students in my program...but will hit the beach tomorrow, woot! yes, it's quite nice ditching my winter coat for a jean skirt, tank top and flip flops, hehe...suckas! but i do miss friends and family...how it'd be more fun to discover this place with you guys. and shin was right, this country IS full of good-looking people... but mostly hot guys, haha! no joke. especially my banker, haha. but being in a warm, beautiful country, with good-looking people, means you take a hard look at yourself...and you want to get into shape. so, will i be trim, fit and hot within a year of being here? (and of course, an ace student at the top of her class??) with a soft, Aussie accent? only time will tell... | | |
